CONSIDERATION OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A GIFT CARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $250 DONATED BY TARGET CORPORATION TO BE USED BY THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE DIVISION.

BACKGROUND: The Norman Animal Welfare Division received a gift card valued at $250 from the Target Corporation. The donation is to assist the animal shelter with supplies for animals in care.
DISCUSSION: Chapter 8, Section 8-111 of the Norman City Code states as follows:
“Any donation valued above $250 to be received by the City of Norman, whether in the form of monies or any other thing of value, shall be required to be accepted by the Council of the City of Norman prior to any use or disbursement of such monies or thing of value by or to any City operation or cause.”
The Norman Animal Welfare manages the care of hundreds of animals each year. Several of the items to care for these animals can be purchased at Target with the donated gift card. Presenting this item as a donation formally documents their official acceptance by the Norman Animal Welfare’s use.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the City of Norman accept the donation of the Target gift card in the amount of $250.
