CONSIDERATION OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,000 FROM AN ANONYMOUS DONOR FOR THE PURCHASE OF PROTECTIVE MASKS AND BUDGET APPROPRIATION.

BACKGROUND: The City Code, Section 8-111 requires that any donation made to the City with a value greater than $250 must be accepted by action of the City Council.
DISCUSSION: On July 8, 2020, the City Council passed Ordinance O-2021-3, Mandating the Use of Face Coverings in public settings. On July 9, 2020, the City Treasury received a donation of $60,000 from a donor who requested to remain anonymous, for the purchase of safety masks to be provided to local businesses for distribution to their patrons at no charge to the patron. The generous donation will allow for the purchase and distribution of approximately 100,000 reusable/disposable masks that will be distributed through the Emergency Manager and Fire Department.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Council accept the anonymous donation of $60,000 and deposit the funds to the General Fund, Donations-Citizens (account 109-363372).
It is further recommended that the Council approve an appropriation of the donated funds to the Fire Department, Emergency Management/Disaster Preparedness Division, Safety and Protective Equipment (account Org 10664144 - Object 43019) for the purchase of protective masks for distribution to local businesses and the public.
