CONSIDERATION AND AWARDING OF BID 1819-72 FOR THE PURCHASE OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE FOR THE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY.

BACKGROUND: On May 16, 2019, bids were opened for Bid-1819-72 for Hydrogen Peroxide. Funds in the amount of $602,299 have been allocated in the fiscal year 2019-2020 (FYE 2020) Water Fund Budget at Water Treatment Plant - Operating Chemicals (account 031-5534-461.31-08) for purchase of all treatment chemicals.
DISCUSSION: With process upgrades for Phase II construction, the Water Treatment plant will be using hydrogen peroxide in the process as an oxidizer to help in the control of taste and odor. Specifications were sent to two (2) vendors and two (2) bids were received. The lowest and best bid meeting all specifications was submitted by Brenntag in the amount of $0.265 per pound. The previous fiscal year’s bid was $0.272 per pound, for a decrease of 2.57 percent.
RECOMMENDATION: Purchases will be made throughout FYE 2020. Bids have been examined by Staff and found to be in order and proper as to form. Based upon the above information, Staff recommends acceptance of the low bid as listed above.
