CONSIDERATION AND AWARDING OF BID 1819-27 FOR THE PURCHASE OF SALT FOR THE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY.

BACKGROUND: On December 6, 2018, bids were opened for Bid-1819-27 for Salt. Funds in the amount of $602,299 have been allocated in the fiscal year 2018-2019 (FYE 2019) Water Fund budget, Water Treatment plant, Chemicals account (031-5534-461.31-08) for purchase of all treatment chemicals.
DISCUSSION: With process upgrades for Phase II construction the Water Treatment Plant will be using salt in the process to make sodium hypochlorite. Specifications were sent to two (2) vendors and two (2) bids were received. The lowest and best bid meeting all specifications was submitted by Morton Salt in the amount of $117.31 per ton. This is the first time we have bid salt.
RECOMMENDATION: Purchases will be made throughout FYE 2019. Bids have been examined by Staff and found to be in order and proper as to form. Based upon the above information, Staff recommends acceptance of the low bid as listed above.
