BACKGROUND: The fiscal year 2018-2019 (FYE 2019) Capital Budget includes funds in the amount of $50,000 for the renovation of the restrooms in Building C. Other than minor Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) modifications in 1995, the restrooms have not been updated since the building was constructed. The modifications made in 1995 are no longer compliant with ADA requirements and need to be addressed.
DISCUSSION: The Building C restrooms are in need of repair, and updating due to the age of the building and high traffic it receives. This project will not only update the men's and women's restrooms, but will also make the necessary modifications for ADA compliance. The project will also include the installation of diaper changing tables.
Written estimates were initially obtained from three contractors for budget purposes in late 2017; Sun Construction Services, Inc., in the amount of $43,703, Irvin Construction in the amount of $20,987.11, and Cavin's Construction in the amount of $48,504.50. Staff contacted the contractors to see if their estimates from the prior year were still sufficient. Irvin Construction withdrew their estimate due to availability. After a more thorough assessment of the project scope, Sun Construction Services reduced their initial estimate from $43,703 to $35,084. The project is expected to be completed within 60 days.
Funds in the amount of $50,000 are budgeted in the FYE 2019, Capital Budget, Building C Restroom Renovation, Construction (account 050-9677-419.61-01; project EF0225).
