CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,400 FROM MADDIE’S FUND TO BE USED BY THE ANIMAL WELFARE DIVISION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS’ ENGAGEMENT AND ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP.

BACKGROUND: The Norman Animal Welfare submitted a grant request to fund the purchase of martingale collars and other supplies that will be used to facilitate play groups for adoptable dogs at the Norman Animal Shelter. Maddie’s Fund is a foundation dedicated to revolutionizing the status and well-being of companion animals. The grant is identified specifically to be used in support of the Norman Animal Welfare’s project titled “Collars of a Different Color”. This project will both engage volunteers and provide needed social enrichment for adoptable dogs, thereby reducing length of stay and guaranteeing a well-adjusted healthy pet.
DISCUSSION: As part of our continuing commitment to encourage responsible pet ownership by promoting and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the residents and pets of Norman, acceptance of the grant will assist us in purchasing needed collars and supplies.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the City of Norman accept the grant and deposit into Misc. Revenue/Donation/Organization account (010-0000-365.13-73) and appropriate the funds into Other Minor Equipment” (010-6070-441.36-99).
