BACKGROUND: The annual sewer lift station rehabilitation capital project for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 (FYE 2019) is budgeted and programmed to replace two (2) twenty horsepower (20HP) sewage pumps in the Summit Lakes Lift Station. The Summit Lakes Lift Station was approved by the City of Norman in 2007 with design features for the pump railings, quick disconnect connections (QDSC) and the motor control panel for Paco Pumps.
DISCUSSION: Line Maintenance staff was notified by Haynes Equipment, "the authorized dealer for Paco Pumps," that Paco Pumps are no longer being manufactured and the company was sold to Grundfos. According to the Haynes Equipment sales representative, Grundfos manufactures sewage pumps compatible to the Paco Pumps but requires an adapter and modifications to the existing pump railings.
Staff researched for alternative pumps to be used without an adapter and modifications to the existing pump rails and found that Flygt Submersible Pumps manufactures 20 horsepower pumps which meet pump curves and head dynamics for the lift station, without any modifications to the pump, pump railing and the QDSC connections.
Recent discussions with Automatic Engineering, the sole-source provider for Flygt Submersible Pumps, clarified the fact that Flygt Submersible Pumps have the same design and construction of the pump discharge connection as on existing Paco QDSC style pumps. As a result, Flygt pumps may be used as a direct replacement to the Paco Pump requiring no modifications of the pump, guide rail systems or the QDSC connections.
