CONTRACT K-1819-53: A CONTRACT BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, AND DR. BEVERLY FRITZLER, DVM D/B/A ROSE ROCK VETERINARY HOSPITAL & PET RESORT, TO PROVIDE VETERINARIAN SERVICES FOR THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER.

BACKGROUND: The City of Norman hired a part-time veterinarian on June 13, 2016, and the veterinarian began full-time on July 1, 2017. The veterinarian has submitted her resignation effective August 10, 2018, leaving the positon vacant. The Animal Welfare Center is in need of professional veterinarian services.
DISCUSSION: Until the position is filled, the City needs to contract for professional veterinarian services to ensure services for the medical care of animals which are sick or injured upon intake or which become ill while at the center. Dr. Beverly Fritzler, DVM, doing business as (d/b/a) Rose Rock Veterinary Hospital & Pet Resort, and the City of Norman had previously contracted for professional veterinarian services to serve the interest of the Norman Animal Welfare Center prior to the City hiring a veterinarian. Rose Rock is located in Norman and has a sizeable staff that can consistently address the medical needs of animals from the Norman Animal Welfare Center whether it is for scheduled care, emergency care or intensive care. The initial term of the contract is six months with an option to renew. Funds are available in Veterinary Services (010-6070-441.40-30).
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Contract K-1819-53 be approved and awarded to Dr. Beverly Fritzler, DVM, d/b/a Rose Rock Veterinary Hospital & Pet Resort, for veterinary services for the Norman Animal Welfare Center.
