CONSIDERATION AND AWARDING OF BID 1718-60 FOR THE PURCHASE OF CHLORINE GAS FOR THE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY.

BACKGROUND:  On April 26,2018, Bid Number 1718-60 for Chlorine Gas was opened. Chlorine Gas is used as a primary disinfectant in the treatment of Norman’s drinking water.  Funds in the amount of $636,251 have been budgeted in the FYE 2019 Budget, Operating Chemicals (031-5534-461.31-08) for purchase of all treatment chemicals.

 

DISCUSSION:  Specifications for Bid 1718-60 for Chlorine Gas were sent to three (3) vendors and two (2) bids were received.  The lowest and best bid meeting all specifications was submitted by Brenntag of Nowata, Oklahoma, in the amount of $698 per ton.  This compares to a cost of $642 per ton last year, an increase of approximately 8.72%.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  Purchases will be made throughout FYE 2019.  Bids have been examined by Staff and found to be in order and proper as to form.  Based upon the above information, Staff recommends acceptance of the low bid as listed above.
