CONSIDERATION OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,250 FROM DR. JOHN OTTO, DVM, ON BEHALF OF FRIENDS FOR FOLKS, INC., TO BE USED AT THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER.

BACKGROUND: Dr. John Otto, DVM has submitted a donation in the amount of $7,250 on behalf of Friends For Folks, Inc., a local animal assistance organization, to be used by the Norman Animal Welfare Center. In accordance with City Code, Section 8-111, any donation in excess of $250 must be accepted by the City Council. This item is being brought forward for that purpose.
DISCUSSION: This is a private, unsolicited donation for the care of animals at the Norman Animal Welfare Center. This donation is a result of Dr. Otto’s tremendous and ongoing support of our community and specifically, our facility, through the hosting of two benefit performances by Rob Lake in Norman on February 9 & 10, 2018. The check was provided with the request that it be used for further expansion of the facility’s medical care and operations beyond those routinely or normally provided by a municipal shelter. Requests for distribution of the funds in accordance with this request will be submitted in the following months for appropriation and distribution.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the $7,250 donation be accepted and deposited into the Other Current Liabilities/Animal Welfare account (010-0000-227.24-31) pending future appropriation and distribution.
