FINAL ACCEPTANCE AND FINAL PAYMENT OF CONTRACT K-1718-49 BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, AND PLAYWELL GROUP, INC., FOR THE OAKHURST PARK PLAYGROUND PROJECT.

BACKGROUND: On October 13, 2015 Norman citizens passed the NORMAN FORWARD Initiative which will fund various projects through a one-half percent (½%) sales tax increase over 15 years. Included in the NORMAN FORWARD Initiative is a project to make improvements to all of the city’s neighborhood parks. The Oakhurst Park improvements include a major playground replacement with synthetic grass safety surfacing, new park furnishings and a perimeter walking trail.
DISCUSSION: On September 12, 2017 contract K-1718-49 for the Oakhurst Park Playground Project was awarded to PlayWell Group/Playworks, Inc., in the amount of $129,847.86. Two partial payments were made during the construction process.
On March 1, 2018, City of Norman Parks and Recreation Staff inspected the new playground and found it to be complete as per specifications.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council accept the Oakhurst Park Playground Project as complete and authorize final payment in the amount of $55,587.50 to PlayWell Group/PlayWorks Inc. Funding is available in Norman Forward Neighborhood Park Improvements, Construction (account 051-9830-452.61-01; project NFP101).
