CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,799.39 FROM THE OKLAHOMA OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY TO BE USED BY THE CITIZEN CORPS PROGRAM TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT AND MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE TRAILER USED FOR COMMUNITY EVENTS AND DISASTER RESPONSE.

body

BACKGROUND:  During October 2015, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security provided a notice of funding availability for local Citizen CORPS programs. Norman Emergency Management applied for and received approval for equipment needed by the Norman Emergency Response Volunteers and the Cleveland County Medical Reserve CORPS to support community events and disaster response. The grant allowed for the purchase of a large, enclosed equipment trailer; display items for community outreach and education; improved computer storage capability; and MRC responder backpacks.  This grant was approved by the City Council on December 8, 2015.

DISCUSSION:  As part of this grant a basic trailer was purchased for use in education opportunities and emergency response situations.  It was planned to add equipment and make any needed improvements when additional funds became available.  In July 2016 we were notified that there may be additional funds available and submitted a request for additional funds.   In August of 2016 the City was awarded an additional $2,799.39 which was enough money to install air conditioning in the trailer, relocate the roof vent, and install tie down brackets.

RECOMMENDATION:  It is recommended that City Council accept the additional funds of $2,799.39 under the Homeland Security Grant Program; receipt into Other Revenue: Emergency Management Grant (022-0000-331.13-60) and appropriate funds to Professional Services/Other Professional (022-9508-422.40-99 project number GF0073).
