FINAL ACCEPTANCE AND FINAL PAYMENT OF CONTRACT K-1920-113 BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, AND MERRITT TENNIS & TRACK SYSTEMS FOR THE 12TH AVENUE RECREATION CENTER PICKLEBALL COURTS PROJECT.

BACKGROUND: On October 28, 2019, the City Council approved an appropriation from the parks development portion of the Room Tax Fund balance for a project to make improvements to the outdoor tennis courts at 12th Avenue Recreation Center. The courts were cleaned and cracks repaired and a court leveler was applied as-needed to the four tennis court surfaces and then lines and nets were applied as-is to two of the tennis courts, while the other two courts were converted with new nets and line work into pickleball courts.
The project also replaced the perimeter fence around the outdoor courts and repaired as-needed to the sidewalk leading to the courts from the large parking lot at the center. The concrete and fence work was done via other contracts by contractors who specialize in those trades.
DISCUSSION: On February 11, 2020 the 12th Avenue Recreation Center Pickleball Courts Project was awarded to Merritt Tennis & Track Systems in the amount of $41,650.
On March 26, 2020, City of Norman Parks and Recreation Staff inspected the new 12th Avenue Recreation Center Pickleball Courts and found the project to be complete as per specifications.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council accept the 12th Ave Recreation Center Pickleball Courts Project as complete and authorize final payment in the amount of $41,650 to Merritt Tennis & Track Systems. Funding is available from the Room Tax Fund, 12th Avenue Tennis Court Renovation Project, Construction (23798815-46101; project RT0008).
