CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,500 FROM AUSTIN PETS ALIVE TO BE USED AT THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER AND BUDGET APPROPRIATION.

Body

BACKGROUND: Dr. Amy Tyler, the City of Norman Animal Welfare veterinarian, was selected to attend a training seminar hosted by a national organization entitled Maddie’s Fund. The training took place the week of September 25th, 2017 in Austin, TX. To compensate for her attendance, Maddie’s Fund, in partnership with Austin Pets Alive, provided a stipend of $1,500 to cover the costs of the travel, housing, and other fees related to the training. On October 13, 2017, The Norman Animal Welfare Center received a check in the amount of $1,500 from Austin Pets Alive with a memo line stating “Veterinarian Apprenticeship - Travel Stipend”.

In accordance with City Code Section 8-111, any donation in excess of $250 must be accepted by the City Council.   This item is being brought forward for that purpose.

DISCUSSION: As part of our continuing commitment to the development of our staff in their efforts to better assist our community, we encourage such training opportunities. Furthermore, we greatly appreciate the assistance of programs like these in making such opportunities available.

RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the $1,500 donation be accepted and deposited into the Misc. Revenues/Donation/Organization account (010-0000-365.13-73) and be appropriated and distributed to  “Employee Travel/Prof License” account (010-6070-441.46-22).
