CONSIDERATION OF AUTHORIZATION FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) RESCUE BOATS FROM TRIAD MARINE AND INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY IN THE AMOUNT OF $49,900 FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

BACKGROUND: To safely and effectively respond to both high water and swift water rescue incidents resulting from flood events within the City of Norman as well as be an option for Lake Thunderbird issues, it has been determined that the Norman Fire Department needs boats with motorized capability. Purchase of these boats was included in the FYE 16 Budget as a City Council amendment.
DISCUSSION: These boats will provide us safe reliable transportation suitable for most flood areas and large waterways within the City. These boats can be used as a direct contact craft that can closely and safely approach an area of stranded victims. Additionally, they are designed as an open water boat and can be taken in most waterways in or out of currents capable of carrying two rescuers and up to six victims. Written quotes were requested from five vendors and were received from two of these vendors in the amounts of $49,900 and $55,254. After a thorough review it is determined that the lowest quote of $49,900, which was submitted by Triad Marine and Industrial Supply, Inc., should be accepted.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve the purchase of two rescue boats in the amount of $49,900 from Triad Marine and Industrial Supply, Inc. Funds for this purchase are in the FYE 16 budget, General Fund, Rescue Equipment (account number 010-6443-422.51-14).
