BACKGROUND: The Norman Municipal Authority (NMA) Transfer Station is located at 3901 S. Chautauqua just south of State Highway 9. The Transfer Station is the centralized facility where residential and commercial non-hazardous solid waste is unloaded from collection vehicles and then loaded into larger tractor trailer vehicles for transfer to a solid waste landfill outside of Norman. The Transfer Station building was placed in operation on July 1, 2011.
DISCUSSION: The fence surrounding the Transfer Station needed to be replaced to properly secure the area. Additional fence was also needed in several other areas. The project included replacement of the existing fence along with the addition of some new fencing that separates the Transfer Station site from the OU bird sanctuary just to the north.
On May 13, 2014, the NMA approved Contract No. K-1314-128 with Nichols Landscaping Company, Inc. in the amount of $55,899.64 for construction of the fence surrounding the Transfer Station. Construction began on June 1, 2014 and was completed on June 25, 2014. A final inspection was performed and construction was found to meet city standards. Final Change Order No. 1 decreases the contract amount by $1,088.88 from $55,899.64 to $54,810.76. The decrease is due to the reconciliation of the estimated as-bid quantities to final as-built quantities. This contract was paid from account 033-9975-432.61-01, Project SA0002.
