Title

CONSIDERATION OF A RECOMMENDATION FROM THE CITY ATTORNEY THAT THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVE A SETTLEMENT OF JEFF WOODS VS. THE CITY OF NORMAN, CLEVELAND COUNTY DISTRICT COURT CASE NO. CJ_2001_1994, IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,000.

Body

BACKGROUND:  This lawsuit was brought by former Sanitation Worker I Jeff Woods seeking damages for workers’ compensation retaliation. A jury trial was scheduled to begin on June 10, 2013. Mr. Woods offered to settle his case on June 6, 2013 for $10,000.  The Court continued the jury trial to September 2013 to give Council the opportunity to consider Mr. Woods’ offer.  Because this matter involves pending litigation, the merits were discussed during an Executive Session on June 18, 2013.

RECOMMENDATION:  It is believed the proposed settlement is fair, reasonable and in the best interest of the City.  If you have questions or need additional information, please let me know.
