CONSIDERATION AND AWARDING OF BID 1617-12 FOR THE PURCHASE OF ANHYDROUS AMMONIA FOR THE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY.

BACKGROUND:  On October 6, 2016, bids were opened for Bid 1617-12 for Anhydrous Ammonia. Anhydrous Ammonia is used for the disinfection of drinking water.  Funds in the amount of $636,251 have been budgeted in the Water Fund, Operating Chemicals (account 031-5534-461.31-08) for purchase of all treatment chemicals.

 

DISCUSSION:  Specifications for Bid 1617-12 for Anhydrous Ammonia were sent directly to three (3) vendors as well as to ePlan, a company that solicits bids, and one (1) bid was received.  Other vendors indicated that they were unable to bid at this time. The lowest and best bid meeting all specifications was submitted by Southwest Chemical Services, Inc. in the amount of $1,645 per ton.  This compares to a cost of $1,640 per ton last year, an increase of approximately 0.4%.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  Purchases will be made throughout FYE 2017.  Bids have been examined by Staff and found to be in order and proper as to form.  Based upon the above information, Staff recommends acceptance of the low bid as listed above.
