BACKGROUND: The fiscal year 2012-2013 (FYE 2013) Public Safety Sales Tax Fund budget included funding to renovate the Joe Smalley Center for City of Norman use as the Police/Fire Investigations Facility. On July 9, 2013, the City Council awarded a construction contract (K-1213-195) for the renovations to Downey Contracting, L.L.C. The renovation project anticipated the need for a camera security camera system throughout the building and its perimeter.
DESCRIPTION: Funds for this purchase are available in the Smalley Center Renovations Project, Construction (account 050-9540-419.61-01; project EF1001). Staff of the Information Technology Division solicited quotes for a networked security camera system, necessary software, and installation. Responses were received from three qualified vendors:
Convergint Technologies, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ($49,686.20)
RFIP Security, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ($49,922.27)
Johnson Controls, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ($59,997.00)
Convergint Technologies was selected as the lowest and best quote. The total cost of the Convergint Technologies contract is $49,686.20.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve the contract and adopt the Resolution granting tax-exempt status for the system purchase.
