RESOLUTION R-2021-78: A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, TRANSFERRING SURPLUS FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $9,500 FROM THE ANIMAL WELFARE HVAC PROJECT TO PURCHASE TWO LAPTOP COMPUTERS TO BE USED AT THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER.

BACKGROUND: In June of 2020, the Norman Animal Welfare had three Fujitsu laptops become unusable. These are the same model of laptops that have been taken out of service at the City of Norman Police Department because of failures and operational issues. The Information Technology Department has been able to get two of the laptops back in working order but have been unable to repair the third one. Due to the unreliable nature of the Fujitsu laptops, the Police Department would like to purchase two Getac laptop computers with the money that is left over from the Animal Welfare Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Capital Improvement Project (BG0251) that was completed in 2020. These laptop computers are the same make and model that have been purchased and installed in the police patrol vehicles. Currently there is $9,889.08 remaining in the Animal Welfare project. The cost of each Getac laptop is approximately $4,500.
DISCUSSION: These laptop computers are necessary for the daily operations of the Animal Welfare Officers. These computers are used to aid the officers in taking their calls for service by providing vital information such as the call location and important details.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that $9,500 be transferred from Animal Welfare HVAC Project, Construction (Account 50696699-46101; Project BG0251) to the General Fund, Telecom Equipment - Personal Computer (Account 10660270-45302) in order to provide funds for the laptop computers.
