CONSIDERATION OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,500 FROM FRIENDS FOR FOLKS, INC., TO BE USED AT THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER.

BACKGROUND: Dr. John Otto, DVM has submitted a check on behalf of Friends For Folks Inc., a local animal assistance organization, to the City of Norman Animal Welfare Center with a donation in the amount of $4,500. In accordance with City Code, Section 8-111, any donation in excess of $250 must be accepted by the City Council. This item is being brought forward for that purpose.
DISCUSSION: This is a private, unsolicited donation for the care of animals at the Norman Animal Welfare Center. This donation is a result Dr. Otto’s tremendous and ongoing support of our community and specifically our facility through the hosting of a benefit performance by Rob Lake in Norman on September 10, 2019. The check was provided with the request that it be used in the future for further expansion of the facility’s medical care and operations beyond those routinely or normally provided by a municipal shelter. Requests for distribution of the funds in accordance with this request will be submitted in the following months for appropriation and distribution.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the $4,500 donation be accepted and deposited into the Current Liabilities / Other / Animal Welfare account (Org 10, Object.42431) pending future appropriation and distribution.
