BACKGROUND: The City of Norman Fire Department currently has a recruit class of 20 candidates. The Fire Department is in need of a bus to transport recruits and equipment for training purposes because of the large size of the recruit class. The Community After School Program has a 72 passenger bus to transport students in their after school program. The Community After School Program has agreed to allow the Fire Department to rent their bus at no cost to transport recruits and equipment. However, the Community After School Program has asked the City of Norman to execute the attached Agreement prior to the Fire Department’s use of the bus.
DISCUSSION: The Agreement will allow the Fire Department to rent the Community After School Program’s bus to transport recruits and equipment at no cost. Under the terms of the attached Agreement, the Fire Department will be responsible for working with the Norman Public School Transportation Department to pick up and return the bus on a daily basis. The City of Norman will be responsible for ensuring proper use of the vehicle and compensating the Community After School Program for any damage to the vehicle caused by the City of Norman or the Fire Department. The City of Norman will be responsible for payment of any storage charges, parking charges, or fines in connection with the vehicle while it is being used by the Fire Department.
