Title

CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000 FROM THE LEGACY ROTARY CLUB TO BE USED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE HOMELESS RESOURCE EXPO.

Body

BACKGROUNDLegacy Rotary Club has offered a $1,000 donation to the Norman Police Department to fund quarterly Homeless Resource Expos which focus on empowering homeless members of the community.

DISCUSSION: Section 8-111 of the Norman City Code provides: “Any donation valued above $250 to be received by the City of Norman, whether in the form of monies or any other thing of value, shall be required to be accepted by the Council of the City of Norman prior to any use or disbursement of such monies or thing of value by or to any City operation or cause.”

This item is being brought forward to City Council in accordance with Section 8-111. If accepted by City Council, the Police Department will expend these funds during the Homeless Resource Expos held quarterly. The Homeless Resource Expo works to provide birth certificates and State identification cards/driver’s licenses for members of our homeless community to facilitate their ability to obtain employment, shelter, and living essentials. The next Homeless Resource Expo is scheduled for November 21, 2019, with two additional events planned for the spring and summer of 2020.

RECOMMENDATIONIt is recommended the City of Norman accept the donation of $1,000 into Miscellaneous Revenue/Donations/Police Donations (010-0000-365-1376) and appropriate $1,000 into Professional Services / Community Intervention (010-6022-421.40-29).
