BACKGROUND: Council awarded a bid and approved Contract K-1718-60 with G & S Sign Services, L.L.C., in the amount of $373,820 on October 10, 2017, for the University North Park (UNP) Robinson Street Entrance Sign Project as well as Change Order No. One which reduced the contract amount by $37,521 for a revised contract amount of $336,299. The original budget for the project was $300,000 and the estimated costs proposed for the final design of the south entrance project exceeded $450,000. Components of the signage were “value engineered” to bring the estimated costs down to a level more in line with what was anticipated
DISCUSSION: Change Order No. Two was approved by the City Manager on March 22, 2018, extending the contract until March 15, 2018. The original completion date was slated to be January 3, 2018. Several delays occurred that were outside of the control of the Contractor that resulted in a prolonged construction period.
