body

BACKGROUND: Section 8-111 of the City Code requires that the City Council accept all donations with a value greater than $250 received by the City, prior to the use or disbursement of same.  Therefore, it is requested that Council review and consider the following item for acceptance and use by the Norman Fire Department.

DISCUSSION: The Fire Department has received a donation of 500 smoke detectors from Vision 20/20 to be used for the Smoke Detector program for senior citizens and the underprivileged.

On 6/23/2017 The Norman Fire Prevention Division received a donation of 500 smoke detectors.  Vision 20/20 is a national organization that is dedicated to loss prevention in the areas of fire and natural disasters. The value of these smoke detectors is $7,740.28 and they were purchased locally and donated to the Fire Department.  This donation will go a long way in helping the elderly and underprivileged in our community.  Our program handles these donations with great pride and responsibility, and understands that in order for these programs to work effectively, partnerships and agencies willing to help are always needed.

RECOMMENDATIONIt is recommended that City Council accept the donation of 500 smoke detectors with a value of $7,740.28 from Vision 20/20 to the Norman Fire Department for use in the Smoke Detector program.
