NOMINATION AND APPOINTMENT OF AN ELIGIBLE PERSON TO FILL THE COUNCIL VACANCY IN WARD EIGHT.

Body
INFORMATION: City Council, at its meeting of September 9, 2014, anticipates accepting the resignation of Councilmember Chad Williams, Ward Eight, from City Council, thus creating a vacancy on City Council.  Article II, Section 22, of the Norman City Charter provides that City Council shall fill a vacancy by majority vote of the remaining members of City Council, for a period extending until the next regular municipal election, at which time an election, conducted as provided by the Charter and applicable State law, shall be held to fill any balance of the unexpired term.  Dan Quinn has previously been elected to and served as the Ward Eight representative on the City Council from July 1, 2006, to July 3, 2012, and still resides within Ward Eight geographical boundaries.  Dan Quinn has indicated to the Mayor that, if so appointed by a majority of the remaining members of City Council, that he would be willing to serve as the Ward Eight representative to Council as provided for in the Norman City Charter.  He has further indicated that he will not be a candidate for the unexpired term but will serve only until the regular municipal election is concluded with the selection of a council member-elect.  In accordance therewith, the above-described item is submitted for City Council's consideration.
