Background: To safely and effectively respond to high water rescue incidents resulting from flood events within the City of Norman as well as be an option for Lake Thunderbird issues, the Norman Fire Department needs boats with motorized capability. The main purpose of this boat will be lake response. This will enable us to respond to many different emergency situations on the lake in a safe and efficient manner. The boat will also be available to respond to water rescues in other areas of our community if needed.

Discussion: This boat will provide us safe reliable transportation suitable for most flood areas and large waterways within the City. This boat can be used as a direct contact craft that can closely and safely approach an area of stranded victims and will have the ability to transport multiple patients, proper scene lighting and emergency lighting, a fire pump available to fight boat and dock fires as well as support firefighting around the lake. This boat will be able to carry the proper amount of equipment to support rescue operations. The boat will be housed at Fire Station #6 (7405 East Alameda). The trailer will hold this boat as well as our inflatable boat so that both will be available depending on the situation.

This is a unique item and will need to be custom built. There are no local companies that make this exact boat that staff is aware of. Written quotes were requested and received from three vendors in the amounts of $71,181.50, $72,814.50 and $76,684.12 (see attachment). After a thorough review it is recommended that the lowest quote of $71,181.50, which was submitted by Rescue One Corporation d/b/a One Boat, of Athens, Alabama, should be accepted.

Recommendation: It is recommended that City Council approve the purchase of a rescue...
