CONSIDERATION OF AND AWARDING OF BID NO. 1213-49, CONTRACT NO. K-1213-117 WITH M & M WRECKING, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $104,000, PERFORMANCE BOND NO. B-1213-40, AND STATUTORY BOND NO. B-1213-41 FOR THE DEMOLITION AND CLEARING OF THE STRUCTURES AT 602 NORTH SANTA FE (FORMERLY RHODES GRANARY).

BACKGROUND: Demolition and clearing of the structures at 602 North Santa Fe, (Rhodes Granary) was a project funded in the FYE 2013 Capital Improvement Program Budget. The site was purchased by the City on September 23, 2008, as a potential site for a new library. The existing structures were never planned to be retained for use by the City.
DISCUSSION: Bid documents were advertised according to State Law on October 26, 2012 and November 2, 2012. Five (5) contractors received the bid documents and four (4) bids were received on November 15, 2012. The low bidder, in the amount of $104,000, is M & M Wrecking, Inc. of Blanchard. M & M Wrecking, Inc. has successfully performed demolition and clearing work for the City of Norman on various projects. The budget estimate was $125,000. Funds are available in account 050-9365-419.61-01, project BG0162.
If approved, work will commence in January 2013 and be completed within forty-five (45) calendar days.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff has reviewed the bids and recommends that Bid No. 1213-49 in the amount of $104,000 for the FYE 2013 Demolition and Clearing of the Structures at 602 North Santa Fe (Rhodes Granary) be awarded to the low bidder, M & M Wrecking, Inc. Staff further recommends that Contract No. K-1213-117, Performance Bond No. B-1213-40 and Statutory Bond No. B-1213-41 be approved.
