CONSIDERATION OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $500 FROM MR. ANDREW DARKS TO BE USED AT THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER.

BACKGROUND: On October 10, 2017 the Norman Police Department Animal Welfare Division received a donation in the amount of $500 from Mr. Andrew Darks of Norman, Oklahoma. The payment was provided while Mr. Darks was visiting our facility and asked that the donation be used within our division’s efforts to benefit the animals and citizens we serve with no specific project or items specified. In accordance with City Code, Section 8-1111, any donation in excess of $250 must be accepted by the City Council. This item is being brought forward for that purpose.
DISCUSSION: This is a private, unsolicited donation for the care of animals at the Norman Animal Welfare Center. As part of our continuing commitment to encourage responsible pet ownership by promoting and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the residents and pets of Norman through education, enforcement, and community partnership, the donation will allow us to further that cause.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the City of Norman accept the donation and the money be deposited into the Animal Welfare standing donations account (010-0000-227.24-31).
