CONSIDERATION OF THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $62,398 FROM THE GANS CHARITABLE TRUST TO BE USED AT THE NORMAN ANIMAL WELFARE CENTER.

BACKGROUND: On July 31, 2014, the Norman Animal Shelter, received a notice from Santa Fe Trust advising the City of Norman that the Animal Shelter had been designated as a charitable organization and is the recipient of 20% of 50% of the Harold J. and Sonia Seabrook Gans Charitable Trust.
DISCUSSION: Harold J. and Sonia Seabrook Gans executed the Gans Charitable Trust on September 13, 1999. Mr. and Mrs. Gans lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for over 60 years before moving to Oklahoma City in 2006 to be near their daughter, Norman resident Lindy Gans Ritz.
Harold J. Gans died on April 5, 2008. The original 1999 trust document reserved the right for their survivor(s) to replace a charitable organization or designate another charitable organization to receive any or all amounts of the trust property after the death of the survivor of them. Mrs. Sonja Seabrook Gans died June 4, 2014. Prior to her death, on December 20, 2013, she revised the original charitable trust document and designated 20% of 50% of the Gans Charitable Trust to the Norman Animal Shelter.
Jearon Cambron, Vice President and Trust Officer of the Santa Fe Trust in Rapid City, South Dakota, provided the 3rd Quarter statement of the charitable trust indicating the total market value of the trust was $623,979.95 and the Norman Animal Shelter would receive $62,398. The Finance Department has reviewed the 3rd Quarter statement and is satisfied $62,398 is the correct amount due the Norman Animal Shelter. Mrs. Gans did not designate any conditions or restrictions on the charitable contribution.
