RESOLUTION NO. R-1415-50: A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, GIVING THE SECRETARY OF THE CLEVELAND COUNTY ELECTION BOARD NOTICE OF MUNICIPAL AND MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTIONS FOR 2015.

Council discussed setting the dates for the 2015 City Council elections in its Council Conference on October 28, 2014, prior to their regular meeting. Article II, Sections 5 and 6, of the Charter of the City of Norman provides for the Council to set by resolution in November the dates of the City Council Municipal and Runoff Elections for the following year.
The filing dates set by Charter for City Council races are the second Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of January (January 12-14, 2015). The 2015 elections will include Wards 1, 3, 5, and 7. Chad Williams, Ward 8 Councilmember recently resigned and Councilmember Dan Quinn is filling in as the interim Councilmember until the spring elections. The resolution also includes a section to elect a Councilmember to fill the unexpired term of Chad Williams, said term to become effective upon election and ending July 5, 2016. Those candidates elected will take their oath of office and their terms will become effective on July 7, 2015.
To comply with the Charter provision, a resolution has been drafted establishing the dates of the 2015 City Council elections and providing notice to the Cleveland County Election Board of said elections. April 7, 2014, has been designated as the date for the Municipal Election and May 12, 2015, has been designated the date for a Runoff Election, if needed.
