BACKGROUND: The City of Norman’s Traffic Control Division utilizes galvanized steel posts, sign faces, and aluminum materials for the manufacturing of street signs.
DISCUSSION: Every year, the City of Norman enters into several supply agreements for the materials needed in our signing operations. Under these agreements, we purchase operating equipment and supplies as they are needed with a minimum required order of $1000.00. Bid No. 1213-23 - Traffic Sign Faces was opened on September 6, 2012. Bid packets were sent to seven (7) vendors and bids were received from four (4) including; Safeway Sign Corp (Adelanto, CA), Vulcan Signs (Foley, AL), Custom Products Corp (Jackson, MS), and Hall Signs, Inc (Bloomington, IN). Safeway Sign Corp was the low bidder for sections II and III. Vulcan Signs was the low bidder for sections I, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX. Custom Products was the low bidder for section X at $4.42, but due to concerns of being able to make a minimum $1000.00 order, Staff is recommending section X be awarded to the next lowest bidder, Safeway Sign Corporation, which bid $4.43.
The budget for this particular item, Bid No. 1213-23 (All Sections), is in the Traffic Sign Materials Account Number 010-5023-429.32-13, with a budget amount of $44,480.00.
