Title

CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS TOTALING $5,165.70 FROM MULTIPLE CITIZEN DONORS TO BE USED TO PURCHASE SHADE COVERS FOR OUTSIDE KENNELS AND SUPPLIES FOR THE FOSTER PROGRAM IN CONNECTION WITH THE SAVING PETS CHALLENGE PROGRAM FOR THE ANIMAL WELFARE DIVISION.

Body

BACKGROUND:  The Norman Police Department Animal Welfare Division participated in the 2016 Saving Pets Challenge sponsored by Michelson Found Animals through the website Crowdrise.  The challenge was a fundraising campaign for organizations focused on reducing shelter euthanasia.  Organizations, including other municipal shelters from across the country, participated in the event.

DISCUSSION:  As a result of the 2016 Saving Pets Challenge, $5,165.70 was donated for the benefit of Norman’s Animal Welfare Center. Staff intends to use the funds to purchase shade covers for outside kennels and supplies for the foster program in furtherance of the City’s commitment to encouraging responsible pet ownership.

RECOMMENDATION:  It is recommended $5,165.70 be transferred from the Reimbursement Revenue account (010-0000-367.12-58) into the Animal Welfare Donation account (010-0000-227.24-31).  A future appropriation request will be made to purchase shade covers for outside kennels and foster supplies for the Foster Program at the Norman Police Department Animal Welfare Division.
