BACKGROUND: The re-designed pump gallery for the D Lift Station rehabilitation project specified two 100 horsepower pumps and motors to provide flows in the 1.0-3.3 million gallons per day range. The dry pit submersible pumps and motors are referenced as Jockey Pumps and are manufactured by Wilo Emu. These pumps alternate every other day and will pump simultaneously when influent flows exceed one pump capabilities.
DISCUSSION: On December 22, 2014, an electrical malfunction occurred to one of the Jockey Pumps at D Lift Station causing extensive damage which resulted in an emergency repair to the pump and motor. The repair was made by Evans Electric Inc., the sole source vendor for Wilo Emu pumps and motors.
For Fiscal Year 16, a budget request was approved for the purchase of a new Wilo Emu 100 horsepower Jockey Pump to be utilized as an emergency replacement pump and motor.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval for the purchase of a new Wilo Emu pump and motor from Evans Electric Inc., the authorized representative and sole source provider for Wilo Emu pumps and motors, at the cost of $36,094.47. Funding is available in Other Equipment (account 032-5552-432.51-99).
