BACKGROUND: The Oversight Committee met on May 30th and August 17, 2017 to consider information that is pertinent to updating the City's building, fire prevention and property maintenance codes. Staff presented information relevant to the City codes, local amendments, and the current State-adopted building codes. Cities are only allowed to make amendments to the State-adopted codes that are more restrictive or where an alternative is equal to the State requirement. Staff has included Attachments 1, 2 and 3 to address questions that were raised during the initial Oversight Committee meeting on May 30, 2017. Attachment 1 lists the City code amendments that are more restrictive than the code requirements adopted by the State. Attachment 2 lists the City code amendments that are being removed from the code because they are less restrictive than the State code. Attachment 3 lists miscellaneous code items that came up in the Committee discussion. The conclusion of the August 17th Oversight Committee meeting recommended submittal of the proposed City code, with amendments, which is attached for consideration for adoption.
