CONSIDERATION OF AUTHORIZATION FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS FROM AUTOMATIC ENGINEERING IN THE AMOUNT OF $49,988 TO BE USED AT HALL PARK SOUTH LIFT STATION.

BACKGROUND: The annual sewer lift station rehabilitation capital project for Fiscal Year 17 is budgeted and programmed to replace two fifty-horsepower sewage pumps in the Hall Park South Lift Station. The Hall Park South Lift Station was approved and accepted by the City of Norman in 2003 with design features for the pump railings, quick disconnect connections (QDSC) and the motor control panel for Paco QDSC Pumps.
DISCUSSION: Division staff was notified by Haynes Equipment, “the authorized dealer for Paco Pumps,” that Paco Pumps are no longer being manufactured and the company was sold to Grundfos. According to the Haynes Equipment sales representative, Grundfos manufactures sewage pumps compatible to the Paco pumps but require an adaptor and modifications to the existing pump railings and QDSC connections.
Staff researched alternative pumps that could be used without an adaptor or with modifications to the existing pump rails and found that Flygt Submersible Pumps manufactures 45-horsepower pumps which meet pump curves and head dynamics for the lift station without any modifications to the pump, pump railing or the QDSC connections.
Recent discussions with Automatic Engineering, sole source provider for Flygt Submersible Pumps, clarified the fact that Flygt Submersible Pumps have the same design and construction of the pump discharge connection as on existing Paco QDSC style pumps. As a result, Flygt pumps may be used as a direct replacement to the Paco Pump, requiring no modifications to the pump, guide rail system or the QDSC connections.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending approval of the purchase of two (2) Flygt NP 3202 468 45 HP Submersible Pumps and Motors from Automatic Engineering, the authorized representative and sole provider for Flygt Submersible Pumps at a cost of $49,998. Funding in the amount of $50,000 is available in Hall Park South Lift Station Rehabilitation Project WW0306 (Account 321-9234-432.63-01).
