SUBMISSION OF THE ANNUAL STATUS REPORT ON DEVELOPMENT AND THE NORMAN 2025 LAND USE AND TRANSPORTATION PLAN FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2012.

body

BACKGROUND: Since the adoption of the Norman 2025 Plan for Land Use and Transportation in 2004, the City’s Planning and Community Development staff has prepared an annual summary of development activity for the past calendar year. In past years this report has included a statistical analysis of the year’s construction and development activity, a comparison of current trends with those observed since the adoption of the Norman 2020 Plan in 1997, and an analysis of the trends observed and what they may imply for future development throughout the city as a whole. Starting in 2010 the report Tables represent the past five years of development.  Five years sets a trend and allows an easier comparison of what has recently occurred compared with the current year’s statistics.

DISCUSSION: The Annual Status Report for 2012 includes a detailed set of statistical analyses and mapping and includes a description of long-range planning activities undertaken by the City of Norman during the year and how those activities address recommendations made in the Norman 2025 Plan.  It also includes Code changes that have occurred which allow new uses and also alter development processes in the City.

The Annual Status Report for 2012 is organized into four sections that include narrative descriptions, comparative statistical data, and relevant mapping and provides a brief Background and Summary. The four major sections include:

Section One:  Long-Range Planning Activity

Section Two:  Construction Activity

Section Three: Land Use Plan and Zoning Amendments

Section Four:  Platting and Subdivision Activity

The report’s narrative, along with eleven tables and nine maps, paints a detailed picture of Norman’s current development climate and correlates long-range planning activity with the goals and objectives of the City’s comprehensive plan.
