RESOLUTION R-1718-67: A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, APPROPRIATING $8,500 FROM THE NORMAN FORWARD DONATION ACCOUNT TO BE USED FOR SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION AT THE EAST BRANCH LIBRARY PROJECT.

BACKGROUND: As the East Branch Library Norman Forward construction project progresses, additional investigation into methods to complete a public sidewalk connection has been undertaken. Atlas Construction Company (“Atlas”) was the construction contractor for Fire Station #9. Atlas has now agreed to pay for portions of the required sidewalk frontage along Alameda Street in front of Fire Station 9 that were not completed when that fire station was originally built. This item seeks appropriation of the contribution from Atlas to the Norman Forward East Branch Library Construction expenditure account to cover the associated cost of the sidewalk construction.
DISCUSSION: This funding is proposed to be appropriated from funding received from Atlas for sidewalk improvements to construct a portion of sidewalk at Fire Station #9. The funding for the construction was not collected upon initial completion of the Fire Station #9 project, but has since been collected by staff. The Atlas contribution was recorded in the Donations/Organization account.
This $8,500 appropriation will be used to help fund sidewalk construction for the portion of sidewalk west of the entrance to Fire Station #9/East Library Branch to the existing sidewalk to the west of the property. The portion of sidewalk east of the entrance will be constructed as part of the construction contract for East Branch Library. A Change Order to build the portion of the sidewalk west of the entrance will be processed administratively, and the funding appropriated through this Resolution will be used to cover those costs.
When construction is completed, the entire public sidewalk along the frontage of the East Branch Library and Fire Station #9 will be completed.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends appropriation of $8,500 received from Atlas Construction Company and received into Donations/Organization (account 051-0000-365.13-73) to the NORMAN FORWARD East Branch Library, Construction (account 051-9507-455.61-01; project NFB017).
